Last year we made a donation to Mediation Buckinghamshire through our Here to Help fund, in association with Heart of Bucks. We caught up with them recently to find out how the donation had been used to positively impact our local community...
Mediation Buckinghamshire are a non-profit organisation who facilitate reconciliatory discussions within local communities. They offer mediation for a variety of disputes including family conflicts, issues with neighbours and concerns within the workplace.
Mediation Buckinghamshire enable both parties to develop a solution to their problem by working together. The conversations are overseen by volunteers who have received full mediation training or are trained up as Conflict Coaches. Our funding has contributed to the cost of training received by 28 volunteers!
In total, support was provided to referrals through 80 exploratory meetings, 6 joint meetings involving all parties connected to the dispute, and 52 conflict support sessions. Funding from the Buckinghamshire Building Society also assisted in the recruitment of a new caseworker who delivered over 1000 engagements, whether over the phone, via email or a letter.
By ensuring that everyone involved in the conversation is there voluntarily and that they are met with a pledge of impartiality and confidentiality, Mediation Buckinghamshire have been able to assist over 300 people.
We were pleased to hear that these sessions have precipitated a reduction in neighbourhood and community conflict, anti-social behaviour, the prevention of family breakdowns, and has increased the wellbeing of those who attended.
